For decades “Kaleidoscope” has been the name of J. Patrick Boyer’s weekly newspaper column examining the ever-changing patterns of public affairs. Over time, Kaleidoscope migrated from the Herald-Gazette in Muskoka (written when he was a high school student at Bracebridge), to the Carletonian students’ newspaper (when a university student in Ottawa). It next progressed to Ontario Lawyer’s Weekly (when he practised law in Toronto), then returned to Ottawa to feature in the Hill Times (when Patrick was a member of parliament). During 2019 and 2020 MuskokaRegion.com newspaper published his column, under the name “Muskoka in Perspective,” in both its print and digital editions.
